About six months ago, life was pretty damn fine. It was November 2008, I had just handed in my Honours thesis and started at my new job, as a researcher at the Urban Research Centre at UWS. I had been with my boyfriend for almost a year. We were going to go for a holiday in December, two weeks of exploring Tasmania. The date that we were originally going to set off was the 2nd of December.
Everything was put on hold, however, because of a slight hiccup. When I had surgery in November, I also managed to get a stroke in the deal. The whole delightful story is on this website, under the little tab that says “The Stroke“.
I am now, for the most part, fine. Sam and I are no longer together, I am still working at the Urban Research Centre, and life is chugging along fantastically. I have plans for two very exciting things in the pipeline, one of which is the reason for this website.
I have signed up to do one of the National Stroke Foundation’s Memorable Challenges. The one I registered for is a cycle trek through Vietnam in March 2010. I need to raise $6500 by that time, and that’s what this is for. To ask people to please give generously, because strokes are rather unpleasant, and the National Stroke Foundation does pretty important work in getting the word out about it.
This blog will track my fun and exciting journey in raising money, getting fit, and learning how to ride a bike.
All donations over $2 are tax deductible, and we’re getting pretty close to the end of the financial year, so now would be a pretty good time to donate!
YAY Jen – you overcame your stroke, and now one more challenge – learning to ride a bike and taking on the 2010 Challenge! Truly, the brain is an unlimited resource for us all. Go for it!!
