Stroke of Genius fundraiser trivia

The trivia fundraiser was on Monday night. After a slightly stressful day before, and a feeling of dread throughout the day, the evening ended up going quite well! The venue was set up perfectly, my lovely friend Samantha drove me and all the prizes there, and stayed on to help set up and collect money. Before we ended up at the pub (The Rose of Australia Hotel in Erskineville), we went on a scenic tour and saw Newtown and Macdonaldtown (Yes, shut up, we got lost. Just because I’m a geographer doesn’t mean I know my way around).

I had a few cancellations just before it started, but two unexpected extras, one of whom brought a gift voucher that ended up being third prize. In the end, 43 people came and $1529 was raised. I just want to say a massive “thankyou” to Reta from Trivia Magic for hosting, Rebecca from The Rose for letting me use the venue and for her help along the way, all the businesses who donated prizes for the silent auction, and everyone who came, especially my friends Suzie, Olga, Alison, Marita and Pat for poking and prodding and bringing more people than I otherwise would have had. Thank you guys! I love you all!

And now, some photos!

Jen!

Books!

One of the silent auction tables. Last year, I did my Honours thesis on independent bookshops in Sydney. I wrote them all letters earlier this year asking if they could donate books or vouchers for the cause, and this table is full of all the books that were donated. In addition to the books, I was also donated many dollars worth of vouchers (see my “thankyou” page for full list of businesses who donated). I love independent bookshops.

Reta, the marvellous hostess

A room full of trivia, and Reta asking questions.

Googlers

A table full of Googlers! Well, three Googlers, one other software engineer, and one IT support guy. This photo isn’t because I love them the most (though I do love them quite a lot!), it’s because it’s the best one of one team that isn’t blindingly bright or blurry.

Heads or Tails

Heads or tails, a common trivia game.

Third!

The team that came third.

Second

The team that came second.

Winners!

(Some of) the team that came first. Their team name was “Geogasm”, a term that I coined and heartily approve of!

Again, to everyone who came, THANK YOU. You are all awesome!
