Five days to go until the Great Race!

There are just five days to go until the Great Race fundraiser!

These are five good reasons why you should go:

1. I was paralysed on my left side for a week and a half and spent one and a half months in hospital relearning things like how to walk, how to tie my hair back, and how to do up buttons.

2. I was pretty lucky, and there are people who have strokes who never regain full mobility, or speech, or even life.

3. The National Stroke Foundation does research in preventing and treating stroke, spreads the word about how people can reduce their risk of stroke, and offers support to people who have had strokes.

4. My experience in hospital cost about $25,000 in total. Because health insurance is probably a rort and Medicare can’t pay for everything, I was left with out-of-pocket expenses of about $22,000.

5. Therefore, $45 for a really fun afternoon where you can meet new people or just have fun with people you already know, get the chance to win some cool prizes, and enjoy the fact that you have the freedom to move and do whatever you want when there are thousands of people out there who have lost this ability because of stroke, is really a very small price to pay.

To go, please pay the deposit of $25 at the donation page, and on the day, bring a hat, water bottle, a digital camera, and be sure to wear comfortable clothes, comfortable shoes, and sunscreen.

We will meet next Saturday the 10th of October at Belmore Park, opposite Central station in Sydney, at 1pm. See you there!
